We've been hanging out with Scott and one of his friends from his hometown a lot. It's nice to already know someone up here. We've been going to bars and restaurants and making food together. He is actually from a town closer to Detroit, probably 45-60min from here so he is still learning the area a bit too. We've found a grocery store we are in love with. It is in MI only and carries a lot of local foods. It's called Papa Joe's Gourmet Market & Catering. They make a lot of their own food too. Their scone dough is to die for! What we really love is their wine selection. It's basically a wine bar/store inside the grocery store. The entire alcohol section is lined with floor to ceiling wine bottles on the walls. Then there is a set of stairs in the middle. They call it the "wine mezzanine". It overlooks the store and has it's own wine bar. Not to mention the entire mezzanine is also lined with wine bottles. They also have a self-serve wine bar where you set a glass under the wine you want and the machine pours it for you. They have a lot of wine tasting events up there too.
Unfortunately I have been feeling a little sick lately and had a fever yesterday so I've been trying to get more sleep and rest. However, we had a very successful weekend finding more business casual work clothes for Ryan. We went down the highway a bit to the largest outlet mall in MI. It was huge! Unpleasantly huge. We were both tired after walking the entire circle and shopping in stores. We also went to The Summerset Collection which is a huge mall just south of us. I mean huge... it has 2 wings on either side of the major road it is on. You take a skywalk with moving walk ways to get to either side. Each side is about the size of a normal mall. One side is 2 stories high and mostly has home-style stores such as Restoration Hardware etc. The other side is 3 stories and has pretty much everything.
We are working on coming up with new dinner recipes too. We made an amazing loaded baked potato soup last night and had enough left over to freeze for later. Tonight we made Yakisoba with chicken and a Japanese onion soup. It was good and really made me want to go get/make sushi sometime soon...
